Nice.....brings back my memories of 3 Witels trips in the 80's.
We used to carry heavy but were very fit and supple in those days.
Interesting comments on some of the kit.Lilo is a must. You sleep on it at night and float your pack
We all had Israeli canvas army boots which we bought from the old Cape Union Mart. They were the best.Grip, light and dry instantly. You can still get them overseas.Made by Palladium in France.Used them in the Swamps,Malolotja,Ndema Gorge,Suicide etc.
We just stuck to the river and very seldom looked for paths.
What a blast

Hi Ralph
We eventually got to do this route on Saturday, as we've had to postpone it three times due to bad weather conditions. It was well worth the wait as we could not have asked for more perfect conditions on the day! We were simply overwhelmed by the spectacular scenery, and being dwarfed by the magnificent towers of rock on either side of us.The zigzags down made the task of the descent quite do-able, although there were some slippery grassy patches. The pool at the bottom of the descent was a piece of paradise, and the rest of the route easy and beautiful. The benefit of doing the route this way was that we were spoilt with constant vista of the kloof ahead of us. Incredible hike!! The only element that spoilt it was an encounter with scramblers using the hiking path for about 2km's up ... pity. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for your input, and for the GE track, which helped tremendously in planning the hike.

Hi Guys,

My name is Deidre`. My husband and I love travelling in the Southern parts of Africa and we’ve been doing so for the past 16 years. We run an IT consultancy firm and things can become quite hectic.

We’ve promised ourselves that we would try to maintain a balance between work and play, and so we often connect to the vagabond spirit in us and simply get in the car and go where the open road takes us.

Our highlight of the year is going on the Kruger National Park trails where we are able to get far away from the rat race and everything else (including cell phone reception) and immerse ourselves in the bush and its way of life. A group of six of our closest friends joins us and we spend three days hiking in the Kruger, accompanied by two senior trail rangers. It’s a great way to re-kindle old friendships and catch up on old times. And silently walking in the bush forces you to do some introspection and get your priorities right. Some of my greatest ideas have come from these hikes!

I've started a website about the Kruger Wilderness Trails at www.africaskyblue.com where I've uploaded some trail videos and photos. My husband Arno has also written some stories about our experiences if you are interested.

We hope you find the stories and videos interesting, please comment if you do (or if you don’t, I guess).

Friendly African Blessings
